Queen’s baton to reach Hamirpur on July 5

Hamirpur: Necessary preparations have been made by the Hamirpur district administration to greet the Queen’s baton for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which will enter the district at Nadaun on July 5 from Kangra district. SDM, Nadaun, RR Verma will receive the baton from Kangra district administration on the Beas bridge near Nadaun and then hand it over to outstanding sportspersons of the district for its further journey.

A meeting in this respect was held here last evening under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner, Abhishek Jain. Jain said that necessary security arrangements for the journey of the baton had been made. A cultural function will be held at a local school ground where a chain of 2,135 students will receive the baton on its journey to Shimla via Bilaspur. He said that the administration had decided to link the gala event with environment. Five saplings of different varieties would be planted to mark this occasion, the DC further added
