Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police GS Gill retireed from service today and was accorded warm departure in a send off ceremony organized at Police ground, Bharai, here. A 1974 batch IPS officer, he was on leave for last two months after heading state police for almost two years. Meanwhile, a screening committee headed by state chief secretary Asha Swaroop met here today to discuss names to be recommended to the government to fill the post. Talking to HimVani over phone, the chief secretary disclosed that the name of new DGP is yet to be recommended by the screening committee.
Officiating DGP Manhas, a 1977 batch officer, is top contenders for the post. There are some others IPS officers senior to Manhas, who may also be considered, but most of them are on central deputation.
