Shimla: Even as Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh has sought CBI probe into the corruption cases registered against him and his wife Pratibha Singh by the Himachal Pradesh vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, the state High Court on Friday extended stay on filing of challans in the cases till further orders.

The cases against them were registered Aug 3, 2009, on the basis of an audio CD released by Singh’s political adversary Vijai Singh Mankotia in 2007 where he was allegedly heard talking money on phone with former IAS officer Mahinder Lal, who is now dead. The CD reportedly also contained recordings of Pratibha Singh and some industrialists.

After hearing counsels for both the parties, Justice Kuldip Singh observed: “Interim order will continue till next order.” The high court in its interim order on June 4 restrained the vigilance bureau from filing the final report in the special court against the couple.
