Valuables worth Rs 16L robbed from jeweller’s house

Solan: In a daring incident of crime, four armed men entered the house of a Shimla-based jeweller at Waknaghat here and decamped with Rs 12 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh on Friday night. As if determined to extract the most, the robbers later left him tied to a tree and went to his shop in Lower Bazaar, Shimla, where they uncessfully tried to break open the locker.

Solan SP VK Dhawan said four armed men wearing masks entered the Waknaghat house of Sofal Kumar Sood, who owns Rajendra Jewellers at Lower Bazaar in Shimla, through the back door of the house. He said that later they asked for the shop keys and blindfolded him, before driving him away in a car towards Shimla. They stopped near the jungle in Tutoo and tied Sood to a tree and left one person behind to guard him. Sood who was injured, managed to free himself and and approached the Kandaghat police station, where a case was registered.

Top officials from HP police including IG Ashok Kumar visited the spot on Saturday. Poilce has lodged a complaint in this regard and hunt is on for the robbers.
