Shimla: 16 persons stranded in the snowbound area at Batal on Grafu-Kaza road in Lahaul & Spiti district were rescued safely and airlifted to Koksar and Bhang helipad near Manali on Tuesday. SP Lahaul-Spiti SR Rana told HimVani that 11 people including school students and teachers who were stranded at Batal on Grafu-Kaza road since June 6 were airlifted. Meanwhile, more than 1,300 sheep and goats were killed as a huge avalanche hit them near Baralacha Pass on Sunday, but all shepherds accompanying them luckily escaped unhurt.
According to Rana, about a dozen people, most of them truck drivers who are along with their vehicles, are still waiting to come out of the snowbound road, as they are waiting for the road to be cleared, and are having enough food and other required material with them.
He said that two foreigners form Holland are still at Batal as they too have decided to wait for the road to be cleared.
