UNDP to organize media sensitization workshop in Shimla

Shimla: United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), a wing of UNO, will organize a one-day media sensitization workshop here at June 22 at Hotel Holiday Home, a senior functionary of UDPA said.
Assistant country director and head, disaster management unit of UNDP, J Radhakrishnan said in a communiqué here today that the workshop would be attended by key administrative functionary, experts and national and international development agencies and community representatives beside media persons, to showcase the learning and experience of various projects being undertaken to mitigate the impacts of hydro-meteorological and climatic hazards.

Giving detail of draft agenda for the workshop, he said that as UNDP is working with national and state governments as well as other stakeholders to promote and mainstream disaster risk reduction at all levels, the recently-launched UNDP DRR programme would cover all state including Himachal Pradesh. The programme aims to strengthen the mandate on Disaster Management Act-2005 and also address urban risks including situations arising out of processes associated with climate change.

He said that with view to complement the ongoing risk reduction activities, a pilot initiative, the Regional Climate Risk Reduction Programme (RCRRP), supported by European Commission for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) is begin implemented in Kullu, Kinnaur and Kangra districts with select communities.
