IPH engineer caught taking bribe

Mandi: Viren Kanwar, an executive engineer of the irrigation and public health department posted at Karsog, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a contractor on Tuesday.

He was arrested after registering a case under the Anti-Corruption Act.
According to police, the contractor had been for a long time making rounds of the office of the XEN for clearance of his bills, but the official had been evading the payment for one excuse or the other. The contractor alleged that the official passed his one bill on Monday and also accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 and asked him to bring Rs 5,000 more on Tuesday to get another bill passed.

Irked by the attitude of the XEN, the contractor was finally forced to approach the vigilance people who laid a track and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe. The vigilance team recovered the amount from the drawer of his table.
