Dharamsala: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association will set up a specialised organisation for other sports called Himachal Institute of Sports (HIS), HPCA president Anuraag Thakur said today. HIS will train sportspersons with the help of foreign specialists. The institute will also appoint 50 coaches for different disciplines in all district headquarters.
Thakur said that Rs 30 lakh annually would be spent for the HIS, half of which will come from the corporates. He also mentioned that HPCA is looking for land in the vicinity of Dharamsala to set up another cricket stadium to meet the requirement of the big tournaments, during which the players should not travel much for the matches. Besides, to mark the silver jubilee of the association, HPCA, with the help of the BCCI, will organise a one-day tournament during September-October this year in which top eight teams of the country would take part.
HPCA is going all out to make sports a specialised part of Himachali youth and helping this state to gain a name. Such institutes will help the youth of this state to get training and excel in various sporting events. Exposing Himachal to the huge potential of cricket and other sports will be an important feather in the cap of Mr. Anurag Dhumal.
