Shimla: A mild-intensity earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh at 12.55 in the afternoon today. Manmohan Singh, director, India Meteorological Department, Shimla, and RM Sharma, in-charge, Seismological Centre, Naddi, in Kangra district, told HimVani over phone that its epicenter was at latitude 31.2 degree north and longitude 78.0 degree east. The area is near Jubbal Kotkahi of this district.
So far, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported, they said. Jadish Singh from Jubbal Kotkhai area said that three shocks were experienced for around 10 seconds, which forced people to rush out from their homes. Tremors were also experienced at Narkanda, Kumarsen and nearby villages.
