Kullu: The recent visit of the Union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to the project sites of the 2051 MW Parbati Hydro Electric Project being constructed by National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) has started showing results while the chairman-cum-managing director SK Garg of NHPC himself taking stock of the factors that are leading to unrelenting delay in construction of stage-II of the project.

On his maiden visit to Parbati Hydro Electricity (HE) Projects, the CMD expressed concern over the delay in construction of the stage-II due to failure of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and copiously leakage of mountain water. He was assured by NHPC authorities here about the progress of construction activities. He was told that the progress in restarting of the tunnel boring would be accelerated with the modifications in the TBM.

It may be mentioned here that the project had already been delayed by more than three years due to the “engineering failure”. The NHPC authorities, however, considered that the pace of the construction activities of Parbati Stage-II was hindered due to poor geological conditions at TBM site of the project. It may be recalled that the Union power minister had advised NHPC authorities to speed up the construction activities so that both these projects are completed as per the revised schedule. The CMD also visited the power house site of Stage-II and Stage-III and expressed satisfaction over the pace.
