Sangla: The tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh have rich culture and enormous tourism potential and has enough opportunities to provide self employment to the people of the area. This was stated by the Governor, Urmila Singh while inaugurating at the third Sangla Valley Household Tourism Festival at Sangla in the tribal district of Kinnaur today organised by Sangla Valley Sustainable Development Society, Himalaya Research Group, Shimla and CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishavidyalaya jointly.
She expressed happiness that about 50 houses in the valley have been registered under ‘Home Stay’ Scheme of State Government. She said that this would not only attract the tourists seeking home like comfortable away from home but would also uplift the socio-economic condition of the people in the area.
The Governor said that tribal areas of the State had rich culture which should be preserved at all costs. She said that life style of people in Kinnaur depicted that people were environment conscious.
The Governor said that traditional crops like Ogla, Phafara and Chuli being grown in the area contain medicinal values and were useful in treatment of many ailments. The dry fruits and the organic fruits being grown in the area were also full of protein. The Governor lauded the efforts of the ‘Sangla Valley Sustainable Development Society’ for organising the festival in a row for the third time. She said that such type of festival go a long way in preserving and promoting the rich culture.
