Shimla: The Union ministry of rural development has released grant-in-aid worth Rs 6,685.51 lakh to Himachal Pradesh during 2010-11, out of which Rs 6,094.73 lakh has been released towards the first installment of funds against allocation of Rs 12.189.45 lakh under NRDWP (normal, water quality and sustainability Programme Fund), while Rs 334.28 lakh has been released towards first installment of funds against allocation of Rs 668.55 lakh (Support Fund) for NRDWP.
An amount of Rs 256.50 lakh has also been released towards the first installment of rural water supply (DDP areas) against allocation of Rs 513.00 lakh to the state. According to an official of Union government, the release has been made for execution and completion of rural water schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission.
National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), a component of Bharat Nirman, is one of the flagship program of government of India with the objective to provide safe drinking water to all households in rural areas, while ensuring convergence with related programmes and involvement of the Panchayati Raj Institutions.
