UPA govt failed to secure national interests: Gadkari

Shimla: Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari today come down heavily on the UPA government, alleging that it has failed to secure national interests due to a week foreign policy, and also to control the skyrocketing inflation.

Addressing a massive gathering enshrined as ‘Nyaya Rally’ held at Ambedkar Choke here, Gadkari lodged a scathing attack on the UPA government, accusing it of failing to protect the borders, claiming that ‘‘encroachments were being made under its rule by China at 147 places’’. The BJP leader also alleged that the government has failed to provide two square meals to 41 crore people living below poverty line at a time when surplus food grains are rotting in FCI godowns.

He alleged that in order to get electoral support, ‘‘the Congress did not even hesitate to take along naxalites as it happened in Andhra Pradesh’’. He alleged that the UPA government lacks strong conviction to tackle the menace of terrorism. Charging the Union government of facilitating the forward trading by giving export subsidy, he said that the government has been favouring forward traders by providing them best quality food grains and sugar, while on the other hand it was forced to import the same items at high prices.

Speaking about special industrial package to Himachal, he said withdrawing the benefits once extended to people is neither legal nor appropriate. He said that the UPA government discriminated against Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as they are being ruled by BJP. He lauded the Prem Kumar Dhumal government in the state for performing well by implementing various developmental schemes. The BJP leader also highlighted the success story of Atal Bachet Bijli Yojana under which the state saved Rs 100 crore by distributing four CFL bulbs free to every consumer in the state.
