Dharamsala: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala on 30 April, 1960, the Central Tibetan Administration is organising a two-day ‘Thank You Himachal’ event to express Tibetan people’s gratitude to the people and government of Himachal Pradesh, in Dharamsala on April 30 and May 1.
Talking to HimVani, Tenzin Phuntsok Atisha, Central Tibetan Administration’s secretary for international relations said,”His Holiness The Dalai Lama is expected to be present at the function on both the days. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will attend the ceremony at Dari ground near Dharamsala on April 30 at 9 am.” The special feature of the first day’s programme will be a photo exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi’s and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message on ‘Peace and Brotherhood’ at the prestigious Museum of Kangra Arts in Dharamsala. Industries minister Kishan Kapoor will inaugurate the exhibition at 3 pm. Union minister for steel Virbhadra Singh will grace the second day of the event to be held at the Main Temple (Tsuglagkhang) in McLeod Ganj on May 1 at 9:55 am. This event will be dedicated to honour some of the local senior citizens associated with the Tibetan community during the last 50 years. The Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute (Men-Tsee Khang) will organise a free medical camp at Dari ground from 1 to 5 pm.
People from all walks of life are expected to be there in large numbers for the event. The event attains more significance amidst growing social and economic stress among local communities due to various factors.
Its a very nice gesture which is being shown by the Tibetan community. Both Mr Dhumal and Raja Virbhadra Singh will add to the occasion by being a part of it. I hope the commoners of Himachal are also able to make an Apolitical stand for various other occasions and both the parties support such events.
