Himachal peaceful during nation-wide bandh

Shimla: The nationwide bandh called by CPI-M and 13 others political parties to highlight price-rise and other issues remained largely peaceful in Himachal. CPI-M activists blocked roads across the state and shops and other business establishments remained closed till 1 pm.

In Shimla, agitators disrupted vehicular traffic near Victory Tunnel and at Theog where all shops remained closed in support of the bandh call. Traffic remained stranded on 350 km long Hindustan Tibet National Highway for two hours at Theog. In Shimla town, markets in the Mall Road, Middle Bazaar and Lower Bazaar, Sanjauli, Summerhill and Kasumputi remained closed due to the agitation.

Report arriving here from Mandi, Karsog, Chamba, Kullu, Rampur, Dharamsala, Bilaspur, Solan, Sirmaur, Hamirpur and Una said that the band partly affected normal life. However, schools, colleges and other educations institutions functioned as usual.
CPI-M state secretary Rakesh Singh claimed that the bandh was successful as people from every section of the society showed their anguish at the soaring prices, rampant corruption and other issues.
