Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) is yet again in news, this time contributing to the IPL controversy with details about suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s previous link with the state cricket association. It has now emerged that Modi had taken help from HPCA to gain entry into BCCI. Thakur added that Modi helped HPCA when it was in crisis by donation of Rs 12 lakh in 1999 for which he was given HPCA membership.
Former HPCA president Raghubir Singh Thakur (1995 – 2000) today admitted that Modi was made member of HPCA in 1999 as he had promised to help the association financially. Former HPCA president Rajinder Zar, who headed the body between 1990 and 1995, too admitted that while he was heading HPCA, Modi tried to influence association members by offering monetary help. Former HPCA members also claimed that Modi had offered to help build required cricket infrastructure in the state if allowed to head the association.
It is learnt that Thakur and the then secretary SC Nayyar had allowed Modi to attend BCCIs meeting in Jaipur in 1999, which was not attended by any other HPCA member, but later other members had raised objections about Modi being made president of HPCA, after which he shifted to Rajasthan.

Hockey Association and succeeded to kick out KPS Gill. These days Rizvi is President of Distt. Hockey Association Solan. Rizvi also visited only once here that too only at the time of his announcement as president. Rizvi is said to be the main cash driving force to the hockey tournament held here every year. It is the name of Rizvi that strengthen the overall social status of Hockey Association officials among the IAS and Bureaucratic Lobby here in Solan.
It is a established fact that some people in almost all sports association who feels that no body can run these organizations better then them, try to project themselves as the only saviors of the respective sport in the state. It is also evident by the figures that himachal stands no where in terms of sports and extra curricular achievements. Sainath "BPL to APL now IPL" moved me that How Cricket is turning best way to gather money for our political leadership and how their cause to serve the poor or 'aam adami' shifting toward this glamorous sport. Let us keep sports above the parochial politics and socalled leader out of play ground.
