Solan: Swami Nityananda’s arrest from Kunihar area has exposed a major loophole in the security arrangements claimed by Himachal Pradesh Police. The police have no idea who is entering or leaving the state, and under these circumstances Himachal can be a safe haven for any anti-national element.
After every incident of crime, the police cracks down on migrant laborers and other petty workers to get themselves registered, but hardly ever have they made an effort to keep a record of people, most of them well-off non-Himachalis, living or owning flats and other such properties (most of them benami) across the state. Or how could one explain that while the Karnataka Police had informed their Himachal counterparts that Nityananda had been in Himachal for at least three weeks, the latter had no clue about it. Further, the police are yet to find out the real owner of the house in Shivshankar Garh where the controversial godman had been staying.
On Wednesday the police had claimed that the house belonged to Delhi-resident Moninder Singh, but HimVani investigation found out that revenue records have one Vivek Dogra of Shimla as its owner. On the other hand, one Satinder Singh from Dharampur too is claiming ownership of the place.
Adding another twist to the mystery, the house guard in his statement to police had claimed that one Mahants from Kullu was the caretaker of the house. So leave aside arresting the person who helped Nityananda hide from law enforcing agencies, Himachal Police has even failed to make out the identity of that person. Sources in the police said that they are now looking out for one Suresh Tiwari who had accompanied Nityananda here. to find out more about his Himachal connections.
It is no secret that there are thousands of such benami properties in the state build by non-Himachalis who use them as their summer retreat. While the VIP properties do not miss public scrutiny, others rarely get noticed by the locals and of course the police as well. So it is very much possible that some of these properties are definitely being misused for anti-national and anti-social activities. Let’s hope, the incident acts as a wake-up call for Himachal Police and also for the government.
