Kullu: A two-and-a-half-year-old child was picked up from the courtyard of a house by a leopard at village Deogri in Nirmand tehsil of the district on Wednesday evening around 8 pm.
Superintendent of police KK Indoria said that the matter was reported today at the Brow police station by panchayat pradhan Kalyan Goswami. He said the beast left the child at about 20 meters away from the courtyard but the child was already dead by that time.
The body of the deceased, Piyush, son of Hardyal Singh, was handed over to the parents after postmortem.
The authorities of the wild life department have been advised to trap the beast to avoid further attacks, the SP added. It is worthwhile to mention here that this is not a lone incident of man-animal conflict as dozens of people are attacked by wild cats in the state and even livestock are under constant attack by wild beasts. The problem is said to have aggravated due to shrinking of forest cover and hundreds of hydel projects coming up in forest areas
