Himachal’s high reaches experience snowfall; rest of State hazy & partly cloudy

Western Disturbances bring light snowfall on high reaches of the State, however, rest of the State was hazy and partly cloudy dipping down of mercury and intensified the cold wave. There are reports of light snowfall in the high reaches of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur this afternoon. The lofty mountains around district headquarter Reckong-peo experienced snowfall. Met Office said that high reaches of Lahaul Spiti and Chamba also got mild snowfall.

Keylong headquarter of Lahaul Spiti district got traces of snowfall moreover Salooni and Dalhousie in Chamba recorded the traces of rain. Met office forecast light rain or snow on the few places in mid hills and isolated places in the high and foothills. With light clouds and partly cloudy weather minimum and maximum temperature recorded sharp decline in the state. In Kinnaur district Kalpa was coldest of this season as recorded minus 0.4 degrees, that is two degree from the normal and departure of nearly three degrees in last 24 hrs.

The minimum temperature stayed two degrees above normal in Keylong as it was recorded 1.6 degrees today. Tourist resort Manali was low at 3.4 degrees, Dalhousie 4.2 degrees. Mercury also dives by one degree in Solan as it was low at 5.4 degrees. Mercury staying 2.4 degrees below normal in this capital town as it was recorded 5.8 degrees and dip by 3.4 degrees in last 24 hrs. Bhuntar was low at 6.5 degrees, Sunderngar in Mandi 6.9 degrees, Mandi 7.2 degrees, Palampur in Kangra 8.5 degrees, Dharamshala and Una nine degrees, Chamba ten degrees, Nahan 10.6 degrees.

A minimum temperature of Bilaspur and Hamirpur was at 11 degrees and Kangra 12 degrees respectively. The cold waves likely to remain in the state for next two days as Met Office forecast partly cloudy weather in next 48 hrs and rain or snowfall at part of high reaches and rain and thundershowers in the part of mid and foothills. The people in the state was keenly waiting for the rainfall as the state is under severe drought for last two months and the Ravi Crop season is already delayed by half months.
