HP elections: 255 cases of conduct code violation; Rs 1.17 cr cash & 3 lakh litre liquor recovered

    The Election Commission of India claimed that cases of Model code of conduct were increased to 255 whereas Election machinery claimed to seized about 1.17 crore cash and nearly 3 lakh litre of liquor in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh so far. A spokesman for State Election Department said that 14 new complaints of violations of model code of conduct were lodged in different parts of the state on Monday, which includes 3 from Una, 3 each from Sirmour, Solan and Shimla, while 2 from Kinnaur district.

    As many as 255 such complaints have been received out of which 214 were disposed of so far. He said 6 other complaints were also received in the complaint cell of CEO today out of which 3 were made by political parties and 3 by the general public. He said total 180 have been received in the cell so far, out of which 54 have been disposed of.

    Besides, 180 cases of clarification and permission were also received, out of which 37 disposed of. Today the Police seized 679-litre alcohols, while Excise and Taxation department seized 36,952 bulk litre country liquor, 11,949 bulk litre of IMFL, 10,933 bulk litres Beer and 100 bulk litre of Lahan.The flying squads seized Rs. 4, 02,500 cash. The total cumulative amount has reached Rs. 1,17,82,155 so far. Excise & Taxation department has seized 2,86,839 bulk litre of liquor and 15,000 litres by flying and static teams of Police till date.
