As many as 1.15 Crore apple boxes reached various markets from this hill state during on going season while remaining produce was also procured by the State agency under market intervention scheme, the State official said. A spokesman for Horticulture Department said today that till date, 1,15,47,151 boxes of apples have been exported to major markets in the Country from the State.
The Royal Delicious, a quality medium grade was sold for Rs.780 per box of 20 kg capacity, Red Delicious for Rs.600 and Golden Delicious for Rs.470 per box. He said 11,629 metric tonnes of apples have been procured under market intervention scheme by HPMC and HIMFED. The State apple produce is considered as the back bone of people in five districts, earned as many as 3500 Crore annually state economy as about two lakh households were engaged in the vocation.
