Shimla: Police today canecharge agitating Congress activists at Ambedkar choke here today when they tried to break the police barricades raised near the Sanitarium hospital. Six to seven activists sustained injuries while 15 others were taken in preventive police custody.
While talking to media persons later, Congress president Kaul Singh Thakur condemned the lathicharge, saying police resorted to brutal canecharge on Congress activists when they were going to lodge a token protest at the Vidhan Sabha square after attending a massive rally at Amedkar Choke against anti-people policies of the BJP government in the state.
He added that 4,000 Congress activists attended the rally and when they were going to lodge a token protest at the Vidhan Sabha square, police brutally canecharged them in which about half-a-dozen activists were injured while 14-15 others were arrested. He condemned the police action, terming it as an attempt to suppress pro-people agitation against the incumbent state government, which is working against the interest of common man.
