MLA-SDM rift ends; peace returns to HP Assembly

Shimla: After witnessing pandemonium and strong protest by opposition Congress legislators in the state Assembly for last two days, peace once again returned in the House as the SDM in the eye of the storm showed willingness to withdraw the FIR against MLA Subash Chand Manglette, who was charged by SDM Chopal Ramesh Thakur on Monday for threatening him.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said in the Assembly as the House begins this morning for Question Hour today that the SDM was willing to withdraw the FIR and he asked the opposition to cooperate in the House to clear the business.

Speaking over this issue, opposition leader Vidya Stokes said that such action should not be repeated in the future and the MLA would also apply for withdrawal of privilege motion brought against the SDM. Congress legislators had created pandemonium in the House over this issue on Tuesday and observed a silent protest wearing black badges on their arms on Wednesday.
