Nahan: Activists of Environment Committee, Paonta Sahib, have decided to start a new chapter in environment conservation in the area by associating plantation drives with marriage, birth of child and other social events.
Chairman of Environment Committee, Bhajan Chaudhary, told HimVani that at the recent marriage at village Gulabgarh saplings of margo trees were planted by the newly-married couple on the occasion. He said that the family also pledged to look after the sapling. Saplings were also provided to relatives and other persons who joined the wedding. The committee has decided to supply saplings at all functions to be held in the area.
He said that members of the committee would also help people take care of saplings they plant. Chaudhary said that the state government plants lakhs of saplings every year but the survival rate is limited, as a result huge amount of public money is being wasted each year. He said that members of the committee would remain active to watch the survival of plants offered to people at marriage ceremonies.
