Justice Abhilasha Kumar today became first woman Chief Justice of any High Court from Himachal Pradesh as she was elevated as CJ of Tripura High Court. Ms. Abhilasha Kumari who is currently serving as Gujarat High Court Judge figured among nine names which was approved by the SC collegiate headed by Chief Justice S Khehar today.
Ms Abhilasha Kumari would be the first woman Chief Justice in any High Court in the Country as she would replace Mr. Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei from the post of Chief Justice of Tripura after releaving from the current assignment as Judge of Gujarat High court. Ms. Abhilasha was also scripted history as she became 2nd woman from Himachal after late Ms. Justice Kamlesh Sharma.
She was enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and thereafter practised in the field of civil, criminal, consumer affairs, industrial insurance and company affairs in the High Court and the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Tribunal. She had served as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel from 1995 to 2002 and was also Legal Adviser-cum-Standing Counsel for Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Himachal Pradesh University, H.P. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation and H.P. State Electricity Board. She had served as Additional Advocate-General of Himachal Pradesh after the Congress Government came to power in March 2003.
Besides this Ms. Justice Kumari other name of other recommended by the colloquium are Justice Hemant Gupta for Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice B D Ahmed for Jammu and Kashmir High Court; Justice Pradeep Nandarajog for Rajasthan High Court; Justice Rajendra Menon for Patna High Court; Justice T Vaiphei for Hyderabad High Court; Justice H G Ramesh for Madras High Court; Justice T B Radhakrishnan for Chhattisgarh High Court and Justice P K Mohanty for Jharkhand High Court.
