39 people ferried in snowbound areas of Lahaul Spiti

    As many as 39 people including two children were ferried to and fro in snowbound Udaipur and Keylong tribal areas of Lahaul Spiti district. However second scheduled sortie of helicopter carrying 18 others had to be cancelled after cloudy and fogy weather in the tribal district this afternoon, the State Government officials told himvani.

     

    The State Liaison Officer camping at Bhuntar Mr. Yog Raj Diwan said that total 17 people were ferried to Udaipur from Bhuntar in first sortie, while 22 others including two children were evacuated back from Udaipur to Bhuntar. The second scheduled helicopter sortie between Bhuntar to Satingri Helipad of Keylong had to be cancelled as chopper carrying 18 crew members returned back after formation of thick clouds over Rohtang Pass.

     

    He said that no chopper service would operate between Bhuntar to Lahaul Spiti tomorrow as it would operate first chopper service of this season to snowbound Chamba district during the next two days. Only one sortie would take place to Bhuntar-Saach-Chamba -Bhuntar tomorrow and it would also repeated on Monday.

     

    The State government have to evacuate patients, employees and local people from snowbound areas of Chamba and Lahaul Spiti district after closing of all link road with winter snowfall in the State. After beginning of this emergency service since Jan 20 as many as 182 were ferried to and fro in snowbound areas.
