HP tableau of `Chamba Rumal` to display on Republic Day parade

    Himachal Pradesh state tableau would find place in the Republic day parade after a gap of four years as it would exhibit State traditional miniature art and painting of ‘Chamba Rumal’, a Senior Officer of State, Language, Art and Sanskrit Department confirmed. The senior officer of the Department and Manager of Gaiety theatre, Mr. Balkrishan Sharma told that a tableau was cleared in the end of December last year by the Union Defence Ministry to display about 6 feet and 45 inch long and equal breadth Chamba Rumal in the Tableau.

     

    He said that it was designed by the noted painter Prof. Him Chaterjee head of Visual Art and Painting department of Himachal Pradesh University. The construction cost of Tableau would come nearly Rs 5 lakh to the department and it was based upon theme of GIS patented Chamba Rumal. A woman weaving the embroidery on the frame of Chamba Rumal would be accompanied on rotating tableau. Himachal famous folk song Chamba war kai Nidiyan Par` to be played as background music.

     

    The State was striving hard to get place on Republic Day parade as no tableau could be selected since 2013 and 2007. In a ope bids to finding place in this biggest National Bonanza to be display on Rajpath 34 states have applied for their respective Tableau however only 15 States including Himachal were short listed for the event, Mr. Sharma said. This year 23 tableaus including eight of Union Ministries were cleared by the Union Defence Ministry committee which comprised of artists and experts besides Defence personal.
