Mercury plunges 3 to 4 degrees below normal in HP

Shimla town was recorded minus 1.4 degrees today which was low by four degrees below normal owing the icy cold winds blowing in the State plunging down the night temperature despite dry weather in the State. The normal lives still remain disrupted with formation of thick layer of ice or frost in the snowbound areas of the State however the State administration restored the power and water supply in the urban areas and cleared the snow from the roads.

 

In Lahaul Spiti district the conditions are more grim, Keylong recorded minus 14.8 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnaur minus 7.8 degrees, tourist resort Manali minus 7 and 7 degrees down from the normal, Solan, Bhuntar in Kullu and Sundernagar in Mandi at minus 1 degree each, Chamba minus 0.2 degrees, Kangra, Bilaspur and Hamirpur at 0 degree freezing point. Palampur was 1.4 degrees, Mandi 4 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur 5 degrees and Dharamshala 6 degrees respectively.

 

The Met office forecast light rainfall or snowfall in the foothills, mid and high reaches in isolated places. It has warned of heavy snowfall and rain at isolated places in mid and high reaches on Jan 15 and Jan 16.
