Shimla: The opposition Congress party in Himachal Pradesh Assembly today demanded CBI probe into the alleged involvement of a senior police official in suicide of an unmarried woman a few days ago in Shimla.
Raising this matter under ‘point of order’ in the state Assembly soon after Question Hour, CLP leader Vidya Stokes said that since a senior police officer, Pardeep Sarpal, and his son, who is a sub-judge in the state, are involved in the suicide case, the matter should be investigated by the CBI as fair probe by state police is not possible. She also said that the accused along with his son reached the residence of the victim to destroy the evidence, which is putting a blot on the clean image of state police.
Speaker Tulsi Ram ruled over this point of order stating that a “similar notice for call attention motions has been given by Kaul Singh Thakur (Darang) and the chair is considered this issue for debate in the Assembly during the session meetings”.
As it has been stated earlier, IG (law and order), Pradeep Kumar Sarpal, his wife and his son Sidharth were booked under Sections 306 and 201 (abetment to suicide and causing destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Ritu, 28, who was allegedly in love with Sidharth, committed suicide here on Sunday. Ritu committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her residence. The victim’s relatives alleged that she took the extreme step after the Sarpals refused to marry their son to Ritu. Sidharth and Ritu were known to each other for the past 15 years, said police.
