People living in Anni subdivision of Kullu and Rampur of Shimla districts are in panic as frequent six to seven tremors were experienced in the areas in the last 24 hours. An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale felt in parts of Himachal Pradesh this morning, leaving the people panic-stricken as they had to rush out from their homes in Shimla and Kullu districts.
Educational institutes and schools were closed as precaution, said Rampur Sub Divisional Magistrate Nishant Thakur. He added tents have been provided in open places for people unwilling to return to their houses. Some old buildings in Ani area of Kullu, Kingal and Kumarsein developed cracks. Reports of boulders rolling down from hills have been reported from interior areas of Rampur and Kullu, said officials.
People avoided going to office after the tremors, which were felt in Shimla, Solan, Chopal and parts of Sirmaur district. The tremors have also increased the risk of landslides with monsoon rains loosening soil. District administration officials in Kullu and Shimla also said no loss of life or property has been reported.
