Mandi leading district in MGNREGA, targets Rs. 63 Cr

    Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has topped in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Programme in the State during the on-going current financial year by utilizing Rs. 63.54 crore projects identified under MGNREGA and many families have been given 100 days employment. District Chamba has been placed at the second position. The employment at their doorstep has gone a long way.

    Disclosing this at a news conference, the Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam said that the credit for this achievement goes to the field staff who worked with a missionary zeal on a war-footing in their endeavour for the elevation of poverty which is a great scourge in the rural India.

    The MGNREGA project had been launched in all the 78 Blocks of 12 districts of the hilly state. The Block Development Officer is the key-agency engaged in the implementation of MGNEREGA with the assistance of A.Es and J.Es of the development and Irrigation and Public Health departments who identify the suitable and feasible sites plantation, conservation of land, water harvesting, minor irrigation canals, tanks and check dams to conserve the fragile strata of the lower foothills of the Himalayas. “We are doing it well with the tremendous response of the local people”, said the Deputy Commissioner.

    The work of the on-going schemes would be further intensified with the release of Rs. 186 crore as announced recently by the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Mr. Anil Sharma. He said all technical assistance is provided by the various concerned departments.
