The Himachal Pradesh Governor Mr. Acharya Devvrat said that plays were not only the means of entertainment but also the evils of the society could be exposed through them so that we could fight against them unitedly.
He was addressing a gathering at Gaiety Theatre Shimla after witnessing a play ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ presented by Flyfot Forum, Shimla at historic Gaiety Theatre, yesterday evening. The play was directed by Shri Rajan Tiwari.
While congratulating the organizers for raising such an important issue through drama, he said that our culture and tradition do not support gender discrimination and said that women were always accorded highest position in the society. He said that our scriptures also reflect the women empowerment in Indian society.
The Governor said that it was unfortunate that our society was mostly affected by this evil, which should be checked and fought against and added that uneven sex ratio may disturb the balance of society.
He said that today girls are excelling in almost every field and beating the records and there was a need to change the mind-set of the people so that girls could get proper respect and honour. MLA Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, Convener, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Committee, BJP Dr. Rajinder Phadke and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
