Patiala House Court turns down bail plea of LIC agent of Himachal CM

    The Patiala House Court today differed the bail plea of LIC agent and care taker of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Virbhadra Singh, Mr. Anand Chauhan as court postponed the hearing on the bail plea for August 16, 2016.

    Mr. Chauhan who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on July 9, 2016 was today produced before the Patiala House Court as the court postponed the hearing on the plea till August 16, 2016. Mr. Chauhan has been interrogated by the ED and continues to be in the judicial custody since July 19, 2016.

    Mr. Chauhan was being charged by the agency that he was not cooperating in the investigation of the case. He was nabbed by the ED sleuth on July 9 when he went for medical check-up at PGI Chandigarh. Mr. Chauhan has been evaded summon in the case.

    His role in the alleged crime was considered important as he had deposited Rs. 6 crore single premium policy of Mr. Singh with the LIC from his own bank account which he admitted during the custody. Mr. Chauhan also signed an agreement with Mr. Singh to look after his two orchards claimed that he earned the money from the apple proceeds and deposited in his own account. However ED was burning midnight burner wanted to prove that the alleged money was amassed earned by Mr. Singh during Union steel minister from a kick back.

    The ED is likely to cross examine the two accused in the matter as ED was opposing the bailing out of Mr. Chauhan. CBI also registered a case of disproportionate assets against chief minister from his exceeding to actual source of income. However Mr. Singh denied the allegation and termed the move by the Central Agencies to destabilize congress rule. Mr Singh said that the DA belongs to extra income from two family orchards.

    Ms. Pratibha Singh skipped the Enforcement Directorate Interrogation schedule to be held on July 28 as she did not appear before the ED at Delhi. While hearing the protection petition of Chief Minister and Ms. Singh, the Court ordered Ms. Pratbha Singh to appear before the ED on Aug 9, 2016.
