HC orders NHAI and HP to status report on encroachment on National Highway

    The High Court of Himachal Pradesh directed the Center and State Government to file fresh status report on or before Oct 1, 2016 in the matter pertaining to illegal encroachment on the road side on National Highway.

    During the hearing of the matter it was brought to the notice of the court that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has complied with the directions passed by the court from time to time and is doing its best.

    National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) filled fresh status report and informed the court that it has removed 175 encroachments out of 280. Court also directed the State authorities to remove all the encroachments from Chambaghat Solan, to Dhalli, Shimla and handover the same to National Highway Authority of India.

    A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on a petition taken up suo-moto by the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a news item published in newspaper Amar Ujala in the year 2014 regarding illegal encroachment on the road side on National Highway.

    The state had filed status report in this matter, in which, the details of all the encroachers, which have made encroachments at Barog and all the National Highways was given.
