The Municipal Corporation Shimla was facing acute shortage of staff after retirement of more than 225 officers and employees bringing the working of civic body to almost halt.
This was stated by Mayor of Shimla Mr. Sanjay Chahan while interacting to media persons soon after a meeting of Shimla MC passing the resolution in this regard urging the State Government to grant permission to recruit 209 employees in civic body. The State Government however strongly insisted the MC to not recruit any employees in the MC.
Passing the State MC budget tune to Rs 250 Cr recently the State Finance Department and the State Chief Secretary said that they passed the budget subjected to no fresh recruitment in the civic body. The strength of MC staff has not increased as the number of MC wards have increased to 25 from 19. According to the norms of MC there must be minimum 21 to 22 employees in each ward.
CPI(M) led MC was accusing the State Government for depriving it to give more funds and posts however it was allowing the other civic body and rural bodies to recruit more staff . The Shimla MC staff is overburdened as the employees were forced to take charge of more than one seat.
We have sent a proposal to the State Government once again seeking permission to post more posts in the civic body, Mr. Chauhan said. A number of employees have been coming down in the MC with retiring of more employees on every month, he added.
