The Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) makes stringent norms in order to avert the frequent road accidents due to human error as it decided to make the medical certificates for the drivers mandatory for obtaining and extending their licenses. This was stated by the Transport Minister Mr. G.S. Bali who was interacting with media persons today.

”To bring improvement in the transport services and avert road accidents, the State board of HRTC took the decision to make mandatory norms of re-obtaining medical certificate after every 2 years for serving drivers of HRTC and commercial vehicles.” Mr. Bali told media.

HRTC was forced to take this decision after receiving frequent complaints that the drivers were not submitting medical certificates required under the driving license sub-section.

We had made it mandatory for the drivers to furnish the fitness certificate for vision especially for cataract and colour blindness and other conditions like cardiac diseases, diabetes, blood pressure and epilepsy.

The Transport department facing the shortage of staff decided to upgrade the services of contractual employees completing 5 yrs to be made regular.
