Showing their resentment to invoke section 144 in the premises of Shongtong-Karcham Hydro-Electric Project (450 MW), the State unit of Central Industrial Trade Union (CITU) today lodged the protest outside the office of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Office (HPPC) in Shimla today.

The District CITU general secretary, Mr. Vajinder Singh Mehra said that the District Administration Kinnaur and Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation failed to protect the interest of workers in Shongtong-Karcham Hydro-Electric Project (450 MW) in Kinnaur District.

He said that HPPC which were executing the power project outsourced its construction work to a private firm which did not remit the wages of workers employed in the project for last three months.

When the Workers under CITU banners were staging their protest outside the project venue recently, the district administration imposed section 144 to crush the protest to protect the interest of private company instead of sheltering the exploitation of workers.

“State and administration which is bound to comply with the labour norms today is standing with the private firms and the action is anti workers and against their rights” CITU leader alleged.

CITU threatened to lodge the state-wide protest if their demands are not considered and the section 144 invoked at the project site is not withdrawn.
