Himachal identifies dozen of wind energy sites

    Twelve sites have been identified in the past 3 years for setting up of wind energy plants in Himachal Pradesh, Power Minister Mr. Sujan Singh Pathania informed the Assembly today. He said in a written reply that the sites were located in Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Shimla districts.

    The National Institute of Wind Energy has been requested to set up mapping stations to assess the wind potential at these sites, the minister said in reply to the question of BJP member Rajiv Bindal.

    He said no electricity has been generated so far as the installation of the projects is under progress.

    Even Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd has proposed to install a hybrid power plant of 2.5-megawatt peak at Rangrik in Kaza in the Spiti Valley. The project will have 2-megawatt peak solar PV installation and wind turbines of cumulative capacity of 500-kilowatt peak.

    The minister informed the assembly that the foundation stone of the power plant was laid by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on June 19 last year.
