Jaundice outbreak: Death toll exceeds above one and half dozen

The number of death toll in outbreak of jaundice declared epidemic by Shimla District administration exceeds beyond 18 as administrators of PGI Chandigarh confirmed 7 deaths of jaundice from this State so far.

PGI submitting an affidavit in High court stated that 7 deaths have been reported due to jaundice as patients died in the hospital hailed to HP state.

Health Minister Mr. Kaul Singh Thakur who was addressing the press conference today said that 10 patients have been killed due to outbreak and morbid of jaundice suffering other ailments so far in the state mostly in Shimla town.

One women also succumbed to jaundice at IGMC yesterday belonged to Dhali located in the outskirts of Shimla and her 4 days old child also did not survive.

It was only after visit of National Instituted of Virology team from Pune that alarm was sounded when almost one third of Shimla town, its outskirts and Solan Municipal committee were affected by the Heptitis-E.

The SIT constituted by the district police looking after the probe today quizzed Member Secretary of State Pollution Control Board Mr. Vaneet Kumar for hours to know why he had submitted the wrong statement before the State High Court about the proper functioning of STP on Mar 2015 alleging that most of the test samples taken from the STP failed.
