Fire destroys shanties at Baddi


    Domestic goods, cash and other material were completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in make shift huts of migrant labourers near Balad River on Sun City road at industrial township Baddi today.

    The devastating fire engulfed over 80 make shift huts of migrant labourers rendering them homeless. No loss of life was reported.

    Preliminary investigation has revealed that fire broke in the afternoon which engulfed the adjoining huts constructed with poly sheets after it was fanned by winds. By the time fire tenders from Baddi Fire Station reached the spot the fire had destroyed cash and household goods of the labourers valued at lakhs of rupees. The fire incident rendered over 200 migrant labourers homeless.

    Baddi Fire Officer Kishore Kumar said the timely action of his department not only prevented the further spread of fire but also saved over 100 adjoining huts in the area.
