Fatehpur: The long wait by farmers in the area here for irrigation water finally came to an end after 13 years when water was finally released into the Shahnahar irrigation channel last week. The enthusiasm among farmers could well be judged from the mass of people who had turned up to witness the event.

Water has been released into an 11-km channel, which would benefit around 400 farmers, but other farmers are now hopeful that they too would shortly get water for their fields. Thanking the management of Shahnahar irrigation project, president of Aastha Kisan Club said they would honour Sansarpur division Xen Mahesh Sharma and other officials for the achievement. Shahnahar project chief engineer RK Jariam said farmers would now be able to raise productivity of their fields as more water would be available for irrigation.
