Bright sunshine brings respite from shivering cold in Himachal


With bright sunshine and mainly dry weather today people took the respite from shivering cold waves as Mercury was near freezing point in most of the towns in the State.

Tribal areas of the hill state were around 12-15 degrees down from freezing point as Keylong headquarter of Lahaul-Spiti recorded lowest in the State with -11.7 degree Celsius. Tourist resort Manali recorded at -4.6 degrees.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district was low at -3.2 degrees and 4 degrees below the normal temperature.  Solan and Bhunter (Kullu) recorded temperature at -0.5 degrees each. Sunderngar in Mandi and Palampur was low at 0.3 degrees each and Chamba and Kangra 0.4 degrees and 0.6 degrees respectively. Tourist resort Dalhousie 3.5 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur 4.7 degrees, Dharamshala 5 degrees and Una 5. 5 degrees respectively.

Day temperature was improvised today with bright sunshine and mostly clear weather giving respite to people severe cold waves in the State.

Tourists are still thronging in snow landscape of tourist resorts Manali, Dalhousie and Kufri. Prolong dry spell was worrying farmers and people as water table came down drastically in major water resources and streams.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has started water rationing with declining of supply and contamination of water supply scheme in the town.

Met forecasts mainly dry weather despite prevailing of weak western disturbances in the region.
