    Polling begins for 732 Panchayats in Himachal Pradesh today in the 1st phase of election as more than 36.78 lakh voters use their franchise. The 2nd and 3rd phase of election will be held on Jan 3rd and 5th Jan 2016.

    State Election Commissioner T.G Negi said that the polling commenced normally amid cold waves at 0700 hours today as per the schedule without any snag and untoward incident. He said that all arrangements had been made for the poll to PRI’s and 5371 polling parties have been deputed in an equal number of polling stations. As many as 21,484 employees and around 11,000 security personnel have been deployed for the smooth and successful conduct of these polls.

    The counting would be held soon after the polling is over and the results of gram panchayat elections would also be declared on the same day. Whereas the counting of votes for Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads will be held on 7th January 2016 from 0830 hours onward at Block development headquarters.

    The panchayat polls were also conducted in some tribal areas of Lahaul & Spiti and Chamba districts. Polling for the rest tribal areas will be held after the winter season.
