Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) Mr.Shashi Kant Sharma today unveiled reconstruction and restoration work of British Era Gorton Castle which had gutted down in a devastating fire breakout last year. Mr.Sharma addressing officers of CAG Shimla said that it would be reconstructed to its original heritage structure as the services being rendered by officials of the Archaeological Survey of India and experts from Centre Public Works Department.
He said that building will be restored strictly to its original form as maps and records available with ASI since last 100 years or more had been thoroughly analyzed before proceeding to its restoration. The Gorton Castle is a landmark of Shimla town and the restoration ensures that its original glory could be revived. The CAG inaugurated the restoration work. About 56 Cr will be recommissioned in the next 3 years.
Special emphasis is given to provide all sorts of raw material already used in the building. Moreover, Archaeological Department has been asked to produce all maps and records of this building so that diversion of existing structure would not take place. Experts of ASI would look after this work along with CPWD officials to ensure that it’s rebuilding strictly take place on the old line.
