Twin holiday special trains deployed on Kalka-Shimla heritage route

Railway spokesman said that additional trains have deployed on the Kalka-Shimla heritage route line as the railway is registering the advance booking to Shimla ahead of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

He said that one of the trains is a 14-seater rail that starts from Kalka town at 0640 hours and arrives in Shimla at 1140 hours. It would start return journey at 1400 hours from Shimla and reach Kalka at 1820 hours.

Likewise, a five-coach holiday special train starts the journey from Kalka at 0700 hours and arrives in Shimla at 1210 hours. The train would start return journey at 1550 hours and reach Kalka at 2110 hours

5 trains run to and fro on Kalka-Shimla rail line. Normally a train takes 5 hours to complete the journey.

The Kalka-Shimla rail track was laid during British Era in 1903 to ferry Europeans to and fro this hill town, the erstwhile summer capital of Colonial India. The track was dedicated as UNESCO world heritage site in 2008.
