“Three migrant construction labourers died during the hill cutting for building a house near Mehli in the outskirts of Shimla. All the deceased youths belong to Bihar. It appears seeing at the site that negligence was the cause of the death and we have begun probing the matter,” said Shimla SP, Mr.D.W. Negi on the spot of the disaster.

Three deceased were identified as Ajay Sahni (22 years), Amit Sahni (26 years) and Methilesh (30 years). The bodies were retrieved and sent for post-mortem to IGMC hospital Shimla.

The hill state houses around 2 lakh migrant labourers engaged in various construction sectors including hydro-power, real estate and housing. Hundreds of them die each year unsung and uncared by both Government and Labour Welfare Institutions including NGOs. These poor people die because of gross violation of labour laws and callous social and political system prevailing in the State.
