Former Chief Minister of Himachal Prem Kumar Dhumal on Sunday hailed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for notifying the much awaited one rank one pension (OROP) scheme.

Mr. Dhumal said the central government fulfilled long pending demand of ex-servicemen by notifying OROP. “OROP was a demand for last 40 years which is now fulfilled,” Dhumal said, hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Mr. Dhumal also congratulated ex-servicemen on this occasion. He said Congress remained in power for several years but deceived ex-servicemen on the issue of one rank one pension. “OROP was one of the promises made by BJP during general polls. I had also raised this issue in Loksabha in 1990,” he added.

Mr. Dhumal said Himachal has large number of ex-servicemen who will be benefitted with this notification.

As per the notification, pension of past pensioners would be re-fixed on the basis of pension of those retired in 2013 and OROP scheme will benefit ex-servicemen from July 1, 2014.

Pension would be re-fixed as per average of minimum and maximum pension of personnel retired in 2013 in same rank and same span of service and pension would be re-fixed every 5 years in future. Arrears would be paid in four equal half annual installments.

However, arrears of all the family pensioners, including recipient of special or liberalized family pensioners, and gallantry award winners will be paid in one installment.
