The Opposition Party (BJP) will move to Central Election Commission (CEC) against State Election Commission’s action of amending the rules for Panchayat polls.
Former chief minister and leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Prem Kumar Dhumal and state party Chief Satpal Singh Satti said Himachal High Court had stayed the re-organisation of Panchayati raj institution’s wards but succumbing to the pressure of state government, State Election Commission amended the rules for reorganization of wards.
Mr. Dhumal and Satti said State Election Commission’s actions raised question over the functioning of commission. “Congress is taking help of state election commission to fulfill its political ambition in Panchayati raj polls,” leaders said.
“At time when High court has stayed the process of reorganization, Election Commission should have convened an all party meeting before initiating any step,” BJP leaders added.
BJP leaders said due to lackadaisical approach of department, PRI polls have become a mere ‘joke’. “There was enough time but neither roster nor reorganization was settled in time,” they added.
It was quite evident that deliberately the department adopted lame approach over PRI issues as Congress government wanted to avoid polls fearing defeat and lastly resorted to misuse of state election commission for reaping political benefit.
