Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has quashed the bidding process for two key hydel projects – Gharopa (99 MW) in Kullu and another in Chamba (126 MW).
The move follows pressure from locals who opposed the projects citing environmental and livelihood reasons.
The residents of Kullu had been claiming that the diversion of water from Beas would adversely affect tourism activities like rafting.
The government has also cleared the decks for Renuka Dam on the Yamuna River in Sirmaur district, which will supply drinking water to Delhi. The project will be executed by HPSEB and will produce 40 MW of electricity.
