It is no where the intention of the government to control sports associations said Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh while interacting with the media here at Vidhan Sabha today after the much talked about Himachal Pradesh Sports (Registration, Recognition and Regulation of Associations) Bill 2015 was passed by voice vote.

Chief Minister said that after careful examination of the bill, one will know that the aim of this bill is to extend control on the sports associations. He also said that he fails to understand why the opposition was making an issue over the bill when the arbitration clause has been associated with the bill itself and it is nowhere provided that any legislation by the state government would debar the players from selection in Olympic games.

“The objective of this bill is to democratize the functioning of the sports associations and to make them accountable for performance in games and sports” he added.

He said that the High Court of Rajasthan dismissed a writ petition filed against the similar legislation and it was unfortunate that the honorable members of state assembly were objecting to the passing of the bill. It would be better that the opposition members instead of having faith in their own judicial prudence have faith in judicial verdict.
